The Lookout

Three bedrooms backing onto a wooded ravine, a private deck above it, and the beach at the end of a short walk. Between September and May you can have the whole thing by the month.

The layout is built for a real stay rather than a weekend: a king in the first bedroom, a queen in the second, and a twin-over-double bunk in the third — so a family, a pair of colleagues on the same contract, or one person who wants two spare rooms all fit without anyone sleeping on a sofa. One full bathroom, a properly equipped kitchen with pots, pans, knives and a toaster, and an in-unit washer and dryer rather than a shared machine down a set of stairs.

The deck is the part people remember. It looks straight out over the ravine with no rear neighbours — a patio set that seats six and a barbecue in season, and in January the same view with nothing on it but bare trees and birds. Air conditioning for the shoulder months and fast Wi-Fi throughout, which matters if you are working from the dining table five days a week.

Erie Rest Beach is a nine-minute walk from the door. Main Beach is four minutes by car, or a twenty-six minute walk through the village if the weather is behaving. The harbour, the restaurants and the breweries are all minutes away — most of them open year-round, some of them not, which is the honest trade of a beach town out of season.
